In addition, there are opportunities to advance into more senior accounting roles at our busy and growing practice.

What You’ll Do

The Junior Accountant position assists in maintaining financial records and ensuring that financial transactions are properly recorded for a portfolio of clients.  You will ensure the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger, compile financial data to aid more your more senior accountant colleagues in the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports.  You will be the first point of contact for your portfolio of clients and be expected to review their monthly financial statements with them and be able to respond to their questions in a timely and courteous manner.

A large part of our practice is individual and corporate tax preparation.  All Junior Accountants at Bourke Accounting are expected to possess or be able to earn their licensed tax preparer certification in time for the upcoming tax season. You will prepare federal, state, and local tax returns and extensions as part of your duties.

What Knowledge Skills and Abilities You’ll Need

A successful candidate for the Junior Accountant role will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Minimum 3 years’ of experience in full-charge bookkeeping or accounting, either in a professional services firm or in-house accounting department
  • Ability to demonstrate a minimum of 5 of the following competencies:
    • Associate degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration or other relevant field from accredited college or university;
    • Active KY notary public commission
    • QuickBooks Online certification
    • QuickBooks Desktop certification
    • NACPB (bookkeeping) certification
    • Excel certification
    • Licensed tax preparer with PTIN
  • Intermediate to Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel & Word
  • Insurable driving record for occasional travel client sites, professional development conferences, and offsite meetings
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak tax season between January 2<sup>nd</sup> through Tax Day
  • Proven track record of punctuality & attendance
  • Possess a clear background history free of bankruptcies
  • Verbal & Written Communication Skills: Demonstrated success in explaining financial statements in a simple and clear way to non-specialist clients both verbally and in writing
  • Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and take responsibility for professional workload to ensure all deadlines are met
  • Organizational Skill: Ability to work through complex issues and tasks methodically
  • Attention to Detail: Maintains a systematic way to cross-check work for accuracy
  • Customer Service: Ability to provide a comfortable safe environment where clients can raise questions and express concerns and alleviate client anxiety about financial issues
  • Proactive: Proactive problem solver interested in building a fun yet productive work environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree such in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration from an accredited college or university
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
  • Familiarity and/or experience with Lacerte tax preparation software

Physical Requirements

This position is primarily located in an office environment.  Able to perform the following duties with or without accommodation:

  • Sit at a desk, conference room or workstation for the entirety of assigned work hours/shift
  • Ability to operate computer and office equipment
  • Access transportation to occasionally travel to client sites
  • Occasional travel to local, state, and national events or meetings for professional development
  • Communicate in clear speaking voice in person, before large audiences and over audio or video-based communications applications (e.g. phone, Zoom)
  • Able to occasionally lift 25 lbs. pounds

Benefits & Compensation

This is a regular, full-time exempt position scheduled Mondays through Fridays, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. The starting pay range for this position is $40,000 - $45,000, depending on your work experience and how many competencies you are able to meet.  Full-time employees are eligible to participate in benefits the first of the month following the date of hire.  Benefits include:
