Come join Lotus Bloom as our new Teacher (Playgroup Facilitator) at our Room to Bloom site in East Oakland and Garfield Elementary School site in the San Antonio neighborhood!  We are looking for someone who is passionate about bringing early childhood education to traditionally underserved communities throughout Oakland through a variety of daily activities geared at promoting healthy outcomes for both the child and their family to join the Lotus Bloom team.

What You’ll Do

The Teachers/Playgroup Facilitators are responsible for fostering parent/caregiver-child interactions and building on attachment and bonding programs through facilitating daily playgroup programs. Collaborating with their Site Director and Playgroup Assistant, the Playgroup Facilitators work to create curriculum and plan themes to engage children’s learning and development. Reporting to the Site Director, the Playgroup Facilitators increase school readiness skills for children 0-4 years old, while modeling caregiver competence and leadership skills and supporting parents.

What Experience You Will Bring

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in teaching or childcare for children 0-5 years of age.
  • Minimum of 6 units of child development coursework.
  • Intermediate proficiency in either MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) or Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets).
  • Excellent people skills; relates well on the phone and in person; demonstrates patience, kindness, and tact in all interactions with children and parents.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task; strong organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Verbal and written skills in Spanish, Cantonese, Mam, or Arabic languages are a plus.
  • Experience working and/or living within diverse and historically marginalized communities.
  • Educational attainment/degree in education, child development, or a related field.

Physical Requirements

This position performs its duties in an open classroom and office environment.  You must be able to perform the following duties with or without accommodation:

  • Stand, sit, kneel, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions for the duration of shift.
  • Able to operate standard office equipment including computers, keyboard, phones, and printers.
  • Traverse safely throughout the entirety of the facility.
  • Safely lift, move, and transport items weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • Communicate in a clear speaking voice in person, over the phone and during video conferences.
  • Access to reliable transportation to travel between two (2) worksites.
  • Ability to complete health screening including Tb clearance and DOJ LiveScan screening.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a regular part-time, non-exempt position scheduled to work 35 hours per week, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays at Room to Bloom at the Castlemont campus, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm at the Garfield Elementary site.  The rate of pay is $23.65 per hour, depending upon experience. Lotus Bloom offers the following benefits for this position including:
